Hi everyone,
My name is Tyler Pearson. I am an urban planner by degree, project manager by trade, but most importantly servant leader at heart. I am super passionate about developing communities to become sustainable through multiple planning elements and connecting the people that reside in them. Coming from the core of Birmingham, Alabama (Druid Hills) I've seen first-hand what poverty does and how it can affect people through generations. Thankfully, my parents and family members pushed me to not fall through the cracks. Growing up I had to earn everything and mediocrity was not an option. In doing so, I graduated from Alabama Agricultural & Mechanical University (AAMU) with my bachelor's in urban planning - transportation planning and GIS/RS (minor) to come back home and rebuild where I grew up. Over the years, I've gained so many experiences from restarting a community development corporation, working at the university level, jumpstarting non-profits, and volunteering. All of my experiences have led me back home to do the same where there are still large and looming issues that just can't seem to stop. These issues include violence, lack of healthy food options, education challenges, public health (environmental justice), and the lack of efficient public transportation and job opportunities. Through my non-profit, ThinkNorthside, I aim to do a lot of uplifting things and activities for youth and adults to get them moving in the right direction.
My focus area of choice is North Birmingham. North Birmingham is comprised of many small neighborhoods that make up the Northside or as we say "Nawfside" such as Acipco-Finley, North Birmingham, Harriman Park, Collegeville, Hooper City, and a few more. It's home for me because I grew up right across the freeway and went to high school there before I attended A&M (George Washington Carver High School - School of Health Professions, Engineering and Technology). I really aim to make a difference in this community by implementing sound practices with community input and thought leadership on different subject matters. I will love for you to follow me on this amazing journey.
